Alignment Turning: Considerations for increased throughput

The demand for increased imaging performance in compact and light mechanical designs can be met by substitution of active alignment of sub-cells with alignment turning, where the optical and mechanical axis are aligned post-assembly to each other by machining the cell. The new untrue turning method performs the alignment without chuck. Instead, the lens stays unaligned, and a moving tool follows the optical axis of the lens. The path of the axis is calculated from the precise measurement of the optical axis. At Trioptics we have successfully implemented the well-known “chuck-based” and the newer “CNC-based” method within our fully automated high precision alignment turning stations.

Single-photon, multi-wavelength polymerization reactions were previously shown to break the diffraction limit in 2D lithography and, in some cases, used to implement 3D printing techniques. We exploit these types of reactions in combination with a computer-driven, full-field irradiation method to implement a highly parallel three-dimensional microfabrication technique. In this talk, we present an analysis of the advantages and some limitations of the method, comparing it to the state-of-the-art. We believe that, due to its high speed and low cost, this fabrication approach will shift the paradigm of micro-3D printing from prototyping and R&D applications to serial production
