Fair novelties and a large scale supporting program strike the nerve of the user industries
Hamburg/ Rhine Valley, 3 September, 2019.Unique trade fair concept with huge framework program meets High-Tech region. In a nutshell, this describes the first edition of W3+ Fair Rheintal (wwww3-fair.com) from 18 – 19 September 2019 in the premises of Messe Dornbirn. The DNA and with it the wellestablished founding principles of the W3+ exhibition concept are transported to the Rhine Valley and being reflected in the newest trends in applied optics, photonics, electronics and mechatronics showed at the booths and speakers’ topics. Furthermore, the debut of W3+ in Dornbirn will specifically address user industries which continuously depend on top-notch solutions and innovations from all these disciplines. This includes the medical, life science, aerospace, defence, and consumer electronics industries.
Reginal enterprises in the Rhine Valley, many of them hidden champions in their fields, welcome the first W3+ Fair so close to their premises as the perfect platform to promote information and to network. Overall, the organizers expect some 100 exhibitors and roughly 2,000 visitors. Entry tickets combining fair and various presentation forums are now available in the online ticket room on www.w3-fair.com. Entry fees are 25 Euros per daily ticket and 40 Euros per twoday ticket covering the entire trade fair.
Trends and novelties for the user industries
Accordingly, the exhibitors demonstrate high anticipation. “We appreciate the initiative of the organizer to implement this successful concept in our region and we are enthusiastic to participate in the first edition of W3+ Fair Rheintal”, affirms Dr. Stefan Pleier, Managing Director at Optics Balzers, Liechtenstein. “We are looking forward to two days of intensive networking and enthralling discussions.” The manufacturer of customized optical coatings and components for the photonics industry will showcase examples of optical applications in augmented / mixed reality and machine vision.
Swissoptic at W3+ Fair Rheintal will present amongst other products aspheric lenses which can be customized and contribute to increase the performance of optical systems by making them more compact and less heavy. Peter Bauer, Business Development Manager, confirms the trend to higher performance in practically all optical disciplines – a requirement placed by large customer groups from the machine building and medical sectors. “The digitalization of the entire image sequence more and more gives the opportunity to correct the image of an optical system with the help of software. This is gathered under the keyword computational imaging of which certainly will be seen and heard a lot about at our both and other exhibitors in Dornbirn.“ Regarding this first edition of W3+ Rheintal he adds: “We are based in eastern Switzerland as part of the four-country region, and therefore we are delighted to now have such a presentation platform around the corner, together with many hidden champions in the region.”
Swarotec is a business sector of Swarovski Optik and develops and produces customized system solutions for industrial applications. At W3+ in Dornbirn the company announced to exhibit demonstrators of a telecentric lens as well as oculars for microdisplays and a SR-surface for the reduction of stray light.
Vario-Optics is a specialist for electro optical circuit boards, residing in the Appenzellerland, close to the Dornbirn fair location. Their customized sensor and communication applications target high-end markets such as aerospace, telecommunication and medical engineering. One of their exhibition pieces at W3+ Rhine Valley will be a solution for integrated planar polymer wave guides for interferometric length measuring.
The Austrian research center Joanneum Research with their “Shark-Skin” development plans to showcase a high-tech solution for aerospace applications. The name stands for a large scalable manufacturing process for flow resistance reducing riblet films which are strong enough to durably withstand the harsh conditions on the surface of an airplane. These riblet films can additionally be equipped with a water repellent “lotus effect”.
International exhibitors and large catchment area
The attraction of the W3+ Fair Rhine Valley goes way beyond the quadrangle region where Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein meet. Trioptics for example, which is based in the town of Wedel in the region of SchleswigHolstein in North Germany, produces control systems for every optical production phase and will exhibit in Dornbirn. The company announced to hit the show floor of W3+ Rheintal with a true novelty: a device to measure of angles in prisms and other plane optics.
A company which stands for the internationality of the fair is laser specialist ILT Fineworks from the Netherlands. Their clients are mainly working in precision engineering, microelectronics and medical technology and use the ILT knowhow in laser cutting, -welding, -drilling, -labelling and micro flexing. As a trade show novelty the company will present at W3+ Rheintal their ultra-short pulsed laser applications for surface structuring and micro drilling up to 7 µm.
n addition to the Netherlands exhibitors will also come from the UK, the USA, and the Czech Republik to Dornbirn – overall more than 10 countries will be represented.
Supporting conference program offers wide range of topics
Tightly interlocked with the exhibition is the vast framework program on both trade fair days. Visitors of the W3+ Rheintal have free access to keynote speeches from renowned representatives both from producer and users of the showcased technologies. Vario Optics will give a speech on “PCB’s with Embedded Micro Optics, Enabling Disruptive Sensor Concepts”. Continental Automotive will hold a presentation in German language titled “Das Automobil und optische Lichttechnik”. The keynote of Optics Balzers is “Shaping the century of the photon”; and Delta Optic Thin Film are depicting spectroscopic applications in their presentation “Continously Variable Filters for Applications in Spectroscopy”. The keynote of the Swiss research institute CSEM has the title “MicroNano imprint + high refractive index materials for imprinting”. Last but not least, it is possible to register for the workshop of the asphericon Academy which features the subjects „Asphere, Freeform, Manufacturing + Metrology”.

About the W3+ Fair/Convention
The event is the result of an industrial initiative in Wetzlar and Central Hessen that aims to promote networking between the three sectors of optics, electronics and mechanics. New interfaces are to be used to launch forward-looking technologies. The fair took place for the first time in February 2014 in the Rittal Arena in Wetzlar.
